Spring is almost here, so it's about time we waved goodbye to all the dark, smoky shades of winter and welcomed the arrival of fresh make-up looks.

Fashion Week's spring/summer 2011 collections were full of beautiful new pieces to fill our wardrobes, and there were gorgeous new make-up trends from all the major designers too.

Gleaming, silky-smooth complexions were the priority for Fashion Week make-up artists. Flawless skin was a must, with an emphasis on minimalism. In other words, the less make-up you can get away with wearing this spring, the better.

Another look lifted straight from the catwalk is bright lips. There was graphic colour everywhere. Forget the burgundies and deep reds of winter; it's now all about the neon brights and punky pastels.

Another key feature was the 1970s disco era. Turn your back on reliable brown, beige and grey eyeshadows and think eye-popping blues, purples and pinks.

Luminosity

Chanel Vitalumière Aqua, €38, Chanel counters nationwide Chanel is bang on-trend with its latest ultrafine foundation, Vitalumière Aqua. So delicate you can barely feel it, but it still gives the coverage you’d expect and need. It has pearlescent features, making your skin appear glowing and healthy.

Max Factor Xperience Weightless Foundation, €19.99, all good chemist and department stores Max Factor’s new Xperience range also has a wonderful new weightless foundation. It’s really light and liquid, making it easy to apply without rubbing it in too much — never a good thing when trying for flawless skin.

Instead of looking as if you’re wearing foundation, you’ll look as if your own skin has just been perfected. Exactly the aim of the game this season.

Clarins Instant Smooth Line Correcting Concentrate, €26, Clarins counters in department stores nationwide Another great product for creating that flawless look is Clarins new Instant Smooth pen. Applied to your face sparingly, it glides over fine lines creating a silky smooth base for applying your foundation.
