My Make Up And Me: Anna Saccone
Youtube sensation and teen style guru Anna Saccone shares her make-up secrets.
I try not to spend too long on my make-up. The thing that takes the longest is generally my hair! I've actually become quite good at applying my make-up very fast in emergency situations! I'd say it takes me about 15-20 minutes depending on how much time I have to get ready.
First memories of make-up?
I remember when I was little and my parents would go out to parties in the evening and would get a babysitter, I used to sneak into my mother's bathroom and sit at her dressing table applying every single make-up product I could find to my face. I genuinely thought I was doing a beautiful job...needless to say I wasn't!
I was 15 and I got a Pupa set from my family in Italy. Pupa is a cute Italian make-up brand with really fun packaging. My set was in the shape of a bear and had lipstick, bronzer, blusher and eye-shadow in there. I first started using it that summer when I began going out with my first boyfriend!
What's your top tip?
To just keep it simple, that natural is always better. Both my parents actually gave me this advice and though I sometimes ignored it, it's something I've always come back to. I believe that less is more when it comes to make-up and putting products onto your face. Women look more beautiful when they have just a little make-up on to enhance their features, rather than a thick layer which masks them!
Do you go out without make up?
Yes, sometimes. It's funny, I usually feel very "undressed" without make-up, as if my outfit or look is unfinished. For some reason I'll only go out with no make-up if I'm wearing sweats or some kind of gym clothes. I don't wear make-up when I'm working out. But when I'm dressed for the day, I'd feel weird without it!
In the bag and on the wish-list?
Benefit Playsticks foundation, The Body Shop Big and Curvy mascara, Benefit Erase Paste and Boi-ing concealer, The Body Shop eye-liner pencil in black, Maybelline Line Definer, Benefit Hoola, a Kiko blush in peach, Maybelline Watershine Gloss in Crystal Rocks, my Sleek Storm Palette, Urban Decay Primer Potion and Bonnebell Blend'n'Glow which I use as a highlight! On my wishlist I have Nars lipgloss in Turkish Delight and MAC lipstick in Angel.
What's the most you've ever spent on a product and why did you buy it?
I don't remember a specific product but when I was living at home in my first year of college I used to only buy high-end make-up and I remember going into Brown Thomas and blowing €200 to €300 on make-up...it was crazy! Now that I'm the one paying for it I'm much more careful about spending money anyway, but I also think that you don't need to buy only high-end products to look good!
Do you tend to go for bargain buys or are you swayed by the adverts?
I go for bargain buys when it comes to make-up, definitely. I prefer to spend my money on clothes instead!
Where do you shop for a beauty fix?
I love Benefit, the packaging is adorable and it's my favourite make-up brand! I could be entertained by the clever packaging and products for hours! I also love drugstore make-up. If you know which products to get and do your research, you can actually find some really high quality stuff for an amazing price. A trip to Boots always hits the spot!
Is there a trend you would like to see come back in fashion?
I've always kept my make-up quite classic and neutral so I don't think that has changed much. I've never gone for bright colours or vibrant shades of eye-shadow though and I don't think that's ever going to work for me!
If you could snoop in anyone's make -up bag, who would it be and why?
I really love Eva Longoria's make-up! She always looks beautiful, so it would have to be hers.
Can you tell us what product, secret or beauty tip that you couldn't live without?
A product I definitely couldn't live without is olive oil! I use it as a treatment on my hair at night. I just apply it to the ends and sleep on a towel, then the following morning I wash it out and my hair feels super silky and soft!
