Meet the Irish contenders for 2015's Rose of Tralee

The iconic Rose of Tralee Festival returns in August for it's 56th year. Time to meet the ten Irish women vying for the 2015 title.

The annual event will kick off on August 14th, with thousands of people flocking to The Kingdom.

Reigning Rose Maria Walsh, celebrated for her poise, grace and style, will hand over her tiara to a new hopeful contender.

Big shoes to fill, but here are the women from around the country hoping to step up to the mark.

1. Galway Rose - Olga Lee

Age: 25

Occupation: Researcher in psychology

Need to know: Olga is returning to Trinity College Dublin in September to begin a Master's degree in business psychology.

 

2. Wicklow Rose - Megan Swart

Age: 18

Occupation: Student and waitress

Need to know: The baby of the bunch, Megan has just finished her Leaving Certificate and hopes to do her native country proud.

 

3. Longford Rose - Daphne Howard

Age: 25
Occupation: Primary school teaching

Need to know: Daphne says her worst habit is falling asleep on journeys, meaning the Rose of Tralee bus tour should be interesting.

4. Derry Rose - Eimear Anderson

Age: 20

Occupation: Student at St Mary's University College Belfast

Need to know: Aspiring religion and English teacher cites the late Michaela McAreavy as her inspiration. "I believe that Michaela represented the province of Ulster impeccably in Tralee in 2004," she said. "She was everything that a Rose should be."

 

5. Kerry Rose - Julette Culotty

Age: 25

Occupation: Social care worker

Need to know: "My best quality is my sense of humour. I always try to see the best in life and to have a smile on my face."

 

6. Louth Rose - Jenny Hanlon

Age: 19
Occupation: Business student

Need to know: Passionate musician Jenny hopes to one day have her own country band.

7. Dublin Rose - Aisling Finnegan

Age: 24

Occupation: Pilates instructor and physiotherapist

Need to know: Aisling will be wearing a gown by international couturier Don O'Neill on the night, who has previously dressed Amy Poehler and Khloe Kardashian.

 

8. Cork Rose - Aoife Murphy

Age: 25

Occupation: Research nutritionist

Need to know: PhD student Aoife is in the final year of her studies, and is researching the effect of dietary fat on obesity and Type 2 Diabetes.

9. Meath Rose - Elysha Brennan

Age: 22

Occupation: Medicine student

Need to know: Elysha is just back from volunteering at Lourdes.

 

10. Monaghan Rose - Michelle Caulfield

Age: 27

Occupation: Primary school teacher

Need to know: Michelle cites her mum as her biggest inspiration. "She is the most hard-working, caring, fun-loving person I have ever met and would literally do anything for our family," she said.
