'You are disgusting' - Beauty blogger Em Ford shames trolls over vile abuse over her acne

A beauty blogger's film highlighting the vitriolic abuse levelled at her by online trolls over her acne has been watched more than 3.6 million times in three days.

Em Ford, from London, made a YouTube video with the title You Look Disgusting after posting photos of her bare and scarred skin on social media for the past three months.

Her candid photos showing her face without any make-up attracted more than 100,000 comments, according to Miss Ford, many of them abusive.

In her YouTube video, she washes off her make-up to highlight the online harassment she encountered, with comments such as "WTF is wrong with her face,” "revolting" and “so ugly" flashing up next to her face.

In a blog post accompanying the three minute film she wrote: “Over the past few months, I've received thousands of messages from people all over the world who suffer or have suffered from acne, an insecurity or self confidence issues.

“I wanted to create a film that showed how social media can set unrealistic expectations on both women and men. One challenge many face today, is that as a society, we're so used to seeing false images of perfection, and comparing ourselves to unrealistic beauty standards that it can be hard to remember the most important thing - you ARE beautiful.”

Miss Ford, who runs a blog site called My Pale Skin, describes herself as “twentysomething” former model who left that industry because she hated it, in order to pursue a career in film making. She posted the video on Wednesday.

Since it went online, a number of supportive comments have been posted on YouTube, and more than 87,000 people have 'liked' the video.

One woman, Isik Mater, commented: "Most of the human beings are so horrible ... you look beautiful with or without makeup."

Maryam Begum said: "I found this video truly inspirational! Such a brave women and a beautiful message portrayed."
