Keep shine at bay with this four-step makeup routine.

We all know the struggle of putting a full face of makeup on in the morning, only for it to slide off within two hours once you step out into the sun.

Thanks to modern beauty, there are a plethora of products available on the market that keep skin looking fresh and healthy, without resembling a melting waxwork.

Here’s four products to try when the temperatures rise:

1. Mattifying primer

Preparation is key when you’re looking to keep skin shine-free. The Makeup Forever Step 1 Skin Equaliser Mattifying Primer (€33 at Makeup Forever) reduces shine, while smoothing the skin and adding longevity to your makeup. Put it on before your base to help your foundation last all day long.

2. Waterproof foundation

The MAC Pro Longwear Waterproof Foundation (€36.50 at Brown Thomas) repels water from the surface of the skin, meaning rain, sweat and tears can’t make it budge. It’s also oil-free and claims to last 24 hours, meaning it’s perfect for going from beach to bar.

3. Setting spray

The Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray (€30 at Debenhams) has cult status among beauty lovers worldwide. Use this to set your foundation and, as it says, make it last all night (and all day) long.

4. Blotting pads

At less than a fiver, the Boots Skin Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets (€4.99 at Boots) are a handbag essential. Use them to gently blot your face and absorb excess oil, while the salicylic acid works to prevent spots.
