The lazy girl's guide to easy summer grooming
Published 14/08/2016 | 02:30
As much as I love summertime, being entirely honest, the downside is there's no place to hide from less-than-perfect grooming. And now that we're coming into the season's end, my enthusiasm for summer beauty preparations - waxing, exfoliating, moisturising - is waning, and a teeny part of me (the lazy part) is thinking longingly of the camouflage of my winter wardrobe.
This is where some very handy beauty cheats and tricks and clever products come into play. So this week, I bring you the lazy girl's guide to grooming. Oh, and if anyone is offended by the term lazy, just replace it with 'time-efficient'...
It takes just one product to create this gorgeous, natural look, in the main photo, above! Use MAC's QuikTrik stick, €28.50, as a highlighter as well as on the eyelids, lips and cheeks and you’re good to go! Available from Brown Thomas and BT2 from September 1
Celeb inspiration: Freida Pinto
The gorgeous actress is fond of a time-saving make-up trick. Her top lazy girl’s beauty hack is to “use petroleum jelly on your eyelids — it gives a dewy, angelic look super fast.”
Treat vs cheat
Charlotte Tilbury Kidmans Kiss

Rimmel by Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick in Boho Nude

6 of the best summer beauty helpers
Overnight Skin SOS
Want to get silky soft skin while you snooze? A whole new raft of overnight masks, concentrates and peels are becoming popular with time-starved beauty buffs. Skin can become dehydrated and tight by summer's end, so try Kiehl's Dermatologist Solutions Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate, €48, with Quinoa Husk Extract for exfoliated, softened skin. Available from Kiehl's and department stores nationwide.
It's All in the Eyes
Mascara is women's no.1 make-up choice, but taking it off can sometimes feel like never-ending drudgery. The lazy girl's time-saving alternative? Ditch the mascara altogether and opt for eyelash extensions. They last for six weeks and there's no need for extra mascara. Full set of lashes from €65, half set €40, and refills €35. From beautyparlour.ie or check out your local salon
Skin needs to look fresh and clean because of the brighter light in the summertime, so why not get rid of your foundation for the summer months and get your glow on with a gradual tanner instead? My new favourite face tanner is the subtle, light-reflecting ESPA Naturally Radiant Gradual Face Tan Serum, €31. Apply after moisturiser twice weekly, for time-saving, foundation-free summer skin. Available at Powerscourt Hotel Resort & Spa, selected salons or espaskincare.com
Golden Oil Slick
What does the lazy girl do when she wants that golden summer glow but couldn't be bothered doing the whole tip-to-toe fake tan thing? She applies fake tan only to the areas exposed to view (we've all done the 'zebra' fake tan!) A gorgeous, faster alternative is the gold, copper and bronze-toned Vichy New Ideal 3 Gold Oil For Face and Body, €25.
60 Second Pedi
We're still in sandal-wearing season, but if your tootsies are looking tired and emotional by summer's end, forget about time-consuming pedicures with endless base and top coats. Instead, slick one layer of the ultra fast-drying Sally Hansen Insta-Dry Nail Varnish in Pink Blink, €7.99, for salon-worthy pedis in less than 60 seconds. From pharmacies nationwide. (TIP: keep your varnish in the fridge for an hour before application to avoid 'bubbling')
Beach Babe Waves
For fuss-free, beach babe hair in minutes, forget about your curling tongs and GHD, instead check out this hair hero - Pureology Multi-Tasking Hair Beautifier, €21.50. Spray this conditioning fuzz tamer onto hair (root to ends), tie hair in a tight bun for five minutes, then let hair down for beachy barnet perfection. Available from Peter Mark and selected salons nationwide, and at pureology.com
