Forget coffee, this week it's all about waking up and smelling the roses! These blooms actually pack a pretty powerful punch in the ongoing anti-ageing battle as they possess revitalising, moisturising and brightening properties.

Dr Hauschka Rose Day Cream, €26.95

The choice of so many celebrities, this has a lovely creamy texture and is packed with natural ingredients. Make sure not to over-apply; no more than a pea-sized amount will leave skin feeling nourished. However, it can take a while to properly absorb. Works well on dry and sensitive types. No SPF though.

Decléor Aromessence Rose D'Orient Night Balm, €72.90

It was such a nice experience to massage this comforting balm into my skin that the end result – I woke up to a positively glowing complexion – felt like a bonus. Although it's rich, it didn't clog my pores, and it's nicely hydrating around the eyes. Expensive, but worth it – especially if you suffer from rosacea or rosy cheeks.

Ziaja Rose Butter Water, €4.50 (from pharmacies nationwide)

Part of an anti-ageing range using ECO-certified ingredients and featuring rose butter, a derivative of the oil that, unsurprisingly, happens to contain even more polyunsaturated fatty acids. This nutrient-rich gentle cleanser is suitable for every complexion type and leaves skin feeling clean, but not 'tight' or irritated. Very good value.

Korres Lip Butter in Wild Rose, €10 (available from Clerys Dublin)

Lightweight and moisturising, with a sheer colour and a delicate rose scent, this long-lasting balm leaves your pout in almost perfect condition. On the downside, the packaging can be a little awkward – it would be a winner if it came in a tube.

Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater Hand Therapy, €8.64

Sweet packaging, lovely fragrance and very moisturising without being sticky, this cream leaves your hands feeling soft and soothed. It definitely works well at this time of year, but you may need something for heavy-duty when the weather is colder.

Neal's Yard Rose Facial Oil, €24.20

Very good for evening out skintone; this hydrating oil is soothing and smells divine. If only it came with a dropper top...

Beauty spot. . .

If you only do one thing this week, swap your morning cereal for a protein-rich breakfast, such as poached eggs or an omelette. Not only will it keep you feeling fuller for longer and help to eliminate sugar cravings throughout the day, it'll also leave your locks looking glossy. Hair is made up of protein so it's essential to get enough to maintain its health and strength. Try to eat a little protein with most meals and you'll notice the difference fast.
