Extreme Makeover: Dad transforms local women into Maleficent and Frozen’s Elsa

Self confessed “sci-fi fanatic” David Cullen admits his house looks like a movie set, thanks to his wide array of props and costumes.
Father of two David from Tullow, Co Carlow, spent years studying online and attending forums to learn how to create the impressive props and costumes.
His first endeavour was a massive Chewbacca costume, which took almost a full year to craft.
Having honed his talents, he turned his attention to recreating well known characters from popular movies such as Planet of the Apes, Avatar and most recently Maleficent and Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.
David recruited two local women- Marie Cashin and Siobhán Kavanagh to take part in the transformative projects.
To recreate Angelina Jolie's terrifying character, David's wife Mary was responsible for the dramatic and theatrical makeup, while the "movie buff" busied himself creating the sinister black horns.
Local photographer Kat Oniszk then captured the result in a spooky photo shoot.
The decision to replicate Elsa, one of Disney’s most loved characters of recent years, was spurred by the discovery of a “beautifully designed” blue and white gown at a comic convention in Belfast.
These two latest ventures have allowed him to increase his client base.
