With an impending wedding and an outrageously oily T-zone, I've been slightly obsessing over foundations for the last few weeks.

Any make-up artist that I've met has been bombarded with questions. You see, like every other bride, I want to look youthful, but I also want my make-up to last. Too often I've seen a bride devoid of foundation before the reception.

However, I don't want it to be cakey or too heavy. So it is with a long checklist and a deeply-rooted vested interest that I come to you with the following recommendations.

For a dewy but not shiny finish with decent coverage, you'll love Le Teint Touche Éclat. If you've had a break out or have a few lingering blemish spots, Vichy's Dermablend will hide all the signs. And what impressed me further about this foundation is that given the strength of its coverage, it isn't overly cakey.

Smashbox's Studio Finish is made with photography in mind, which is so important on your wedding day. It also lasts well through the day.

A piece of advice I was given is that if you're opting for a foundation with an SPF in it, make sure your moisturiser doesn't contain any, as too much SPF can cause flashback in photos (white ghostly look).

In terms of durability, MAC's Pro Longwear and Estee Lauder Double Wear fared the best. No matter what the conditions are or how oily your skin is, they won't let you down,

Best value

Kate Idoleyes Mascara, €8.99, Rimmel, available in grocery stores and pharmacies nationwide

I like this mascara a lot. The shape and flexible nature of the wand makes coating your lashes really easy. And the brush and glossy formula really do work to create volume.

Best buy

Protect and Perfect Advanced Serum, €30.50, No7, available in Boots stores nationwide

There was massive hysteria surrounding the recent launch of this product, and with good reason too. Targeted at the 25 to 35 age group, clinical trials have shown that proper use will yield wrinkle-busting results within just four weeks. SOLD!

PRO LONGWEAR, €36.50 MAC, available in Brown Thomas and BT2 stores nationwide.

Good coverage and totally budge-proof

STUDIO SKIN, 15 HOUR HYDRATING FOUNDATION, €35.50

Smashbox, available in Arnotts Dublin. Won’t react to even the harshest of camera flashes.

DOUBLE WEAR STAY IN PLACE, €36.50

Estee Lauder, available in selected department stores nationwide. No matter the weather on your wedding day, you won’t have to worry about this slipping off.

DERMABLEND CORRECTIVE FOUNDATION, €21.50

Vichy, available in selected pharmacies nationwide. Perfect for brides with problem skin as this will mask almost everything. Also, handy for disguising any bruises on the body.

LE TEINT TOUCHE ÉCLAT, €38

YSL, available in selected department stores nationwide. Good, strong, buildable coverage that leaves an amazing finish to the skin. Works for both dry and combination skin.

TOP TIP

Spritz La Roche-Posay's Thermal Spring Water, €4.99 (50ml), which is available from pharmacies nationwide, on to your face through your wedding day to keep it looking fresh, dewy and youthful.
