Make-up Muse: Scarlett Johansson
When it comes to adding a twist to a classic look Scarlett Johansson rarely disappoints. She shone in a simple LBD at the recent Mango Fashion Awards and chose a make-up look, more grunge than glam, that is a real departure from her usual 50's inspired styling.
Usually wearing a look that says Hollywood starlet, Scarlett has kept her base soft yet it is the eyes and that hair that make the new style really tick. To steal this, begin by using a little hydrating moisturiser which will keep skin supple before adding a light coverage foundation like Mac's Studio Fix. Although the base here is quite light, some coverage can be gained and imperfections swept away with a touch or two of concealer. Most importantly, since the base really needs softness, look to eliminate shading and shine with a sweep of Make Up Forevers HD High Definition Mineral Finishing Powder.
Scarlett's eyes are the real attraction. They work as both the contrast for and the focal point to her look. Upper and lower lids can be Kohl lined to the inner corners, and as an eye-base a gold shadow like Mac's Gold Digger should provide the right shade and amount of colour - dot from the tear duct and across the lids for width.
Use a smokey green shadow like Nars Duo Rajasthan across the outer corner of lids and blend across the socket to the brow bone to add both the contrast and something of a smudged finish. Finally make eyes stand out by shadowing along the lower lash line and finish with a few coats of volumising mascara.
Scarlett has ditched that famous red pout for a softer pink and it works surprisingly well. For a similar effect try Urban Decay's Pocket Rocket Lip Gloss in Kirk or for more colour a pale pink lipstick like Mac's Creme Cup. Although the look will still work well with a touch or two of rouge, soft pinks will help avoid making the whole pout too pert.
When it comes to the hair Scarlett injected her new do with some loose waves. Although the rest of the look doesn't need to be particularly overdone, the tresses are a little deceptive and a bit high maintenance, so be warned. Steal this style by wrapping the front sections of hair around a barrel iron and finger tease for a lightly tousled wave. Scarlett's new look might be a bit too grunge for those who loved her previous styling and whilst she always looks so good we have to admire the change in direction, Grungy it may be but Kurt Kobain it is most definitely not. The effect is brave, confident, versatile and as always with Miss Johansson - fresh. We love this look.
