Luxury pampering: Try a little tenderness

Luxury pampering can start in the comfort of your own home, says AislingKeenan

Everyone needs a little TLC sometimes. Life can get so hectic that it would make anyone crack under the pressure.

Yet setting time aside for yourself -- not your work, not your kids, not your partner, just you -- is something so many women forget or neglect to do.

Not everyone has the luxury of jetting off for a spa weekend, of course. But that doesn't mean you can't treat yourself in the comfort of your own home.

You can recreate the luxury and the pampering that you'd get at a four-star resort in your four-bed semi.

All you need are the right bits and pieces and, of course, time to yourself.

Indulge yourself at home and make yourself feel extra special from top-to-toe.

Home help

Start off with a luxurious and relaxing bath. Get your skin feeling silky-smooth, nourished and soothed with REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil, €36, Arnotts Beauty Hall and other stockists nationwide.

When the oil disperses and changes the water’s consistency, you’ll feel as if you’re bathing in milk. Everyone loves that great ‘just out of the salon’ feeling. To achieve that at home, you’ll need to give hair some extra TLC. Redken All Soft range, which includes shampoo and conditioner, €18 and the very decadent

Velvet Whip leave-in treatment, €23 (all available from selected hair salons nationwide) are ideal for creating touchably soft hair, without the big-salon price.

Scared to even attempt a home manicure? Worry not. I have raved about Rimmel'’s amazing brushes before; they are curved at the top, making mess-proof manicures and pedicures quick and easy. You’ll look and feel as if you’ve had a professional nail session.

Rimmel does a gorgeous springtime shade in its Lycra PRO Professional Finish range, Coral Romance, €6.69, pharmacies nationwide.

A healthy-looking tan glow always makes me feel a bit special (and a bit slimmer, if I’m honest). When you’ve finished bathing in luxury, apply a moisturiser with a developing tan to make your skin not only silky but glowing, too.

My favourite at the moment is Karora’s Gradual Bronzing Moisturiser, €19.99, www.karora cosmetics.com, which has the added bonus of an SPF15.

Going pro

If home pampering sounds like too much effort, and you’ve a few extra euro lying around, let the professionals do the work. LA Make-Up Academy has a package ideal for head-totoe pampering. A make-up artist will recreate a celebrity look or tailor a look to suit you. They’ll apply lashes for extra glamour and style your hair either in a sultry upstyle or tousled waves. A spray tan is also included in this great all-in-one package.

Love To Me Makeover, €80, LA Make-Up Academy, Chatham Street, Dublin 2.
