Liquid Eyeliner: How to perfect the flawless flick
I have a love/hate relationship with liquid eyeliner. Applied properly with a retro flick, it looks just fab. Think Taylor at her most sultry, Hepburn at her most beautiful and Monroe at her most iconic.
Unfortunately when I try, the result is more messy than Marilyn. But I've just learned the best trick. Before you even open your eyeliner, use a waxy pencil to draw the line you want on your lid. This helps 'hold' the liquid applicator and makes applying much more manageable.
Practice makes perfect and the easiest way to do that is with an eyeliner pen. Get a flawless flick with these products.
Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eyeliner Pen, €10
Glides on smoothly, dries matte and really lasts, but you'll have to reapply at least once to get an intense colour.
Smashbox Limitless Liquid Liner Pen, €25.41
Pricey, but gives great precision thanks to a very fine tip. Definitely requires some practice, but gives a crisp, glossy line.
MAC Penultimate Eye Liner, €19
Delivers a sleek, fine line that makes lashes look luxuriant, stays put and is perfectly precise thanks to its super-slim nib.
Bourjois Liner Feutre Ultra Black Felt-Tip Eyeliner, €8.99
Good price, good true black with a matte finish and great staying power, but a steady hand is essential if you want to build up colour.
YSL Eyeliner Automatique, €31
Its reputation precedes it but for once the hype is justified. Effortless and precise, this delivers an intense jet black colour that lasts.
Bobbi Brown Ink Liner, €24
Only available in Really Black, it requires a patient approach. The flexible tip gives a controlled stream of colour, it's long-wearing but takes more than one application.
