Jet Set: Triona McCarthy's beauty travel tips
Be bang up to date with all the insider tips and tricks of the trade when it comes to air travel. Our high-flier beauty expert has the beauty scoop.
I'm a frequent flyer and I never check in my bag. Packing beauty products for a flight can be an especially tricky proposition, because of all the regulations. And nobody wants an exploded foundation lining the interior of their make-up bag after a flight.
The trick to packing is preparation. Before I go, I get my hair coloured, I have a straightening treatment and a blow dry, and then I use dry shampoo while I'm away. I pop into Shavata Brow Studio, Harvey Nichols, Dundrum, tel: (01) 291-0488, and have a spray tan, a two-week mani and pedi and get my brows shaped and lashes tinted. Sometimes, you need to be high maintenance to be low maintenance.
Everything I need on the plane goes into a clear-plastic zipper bag, and I take travel sizes and samples of my favourite products, and decant everything else into mini travel bottles by Bobbi Brown.
Once I've been X-rayed, I buy minis of things like this deodorant from Dove, €2, at Boots in the airport. I also use a Travalo, €14.99, from secretfashionfixes.ie. It's a refillable perfume-bottle atomizer.
If all this is too much for you, then just buy the Voya skincare travel kit, €20. It's filled with four miniature versions of Voya's best-selling products, which are just perfect for airplane carry-on.
My sis Laura lives in Melbourne, but will be flying home for our baby sister Anna's wedding in August.
Her top tip on long-haul flights, to ward off deep-vein thrombosis, is to pack a tennis ball in your hand luggage.
She uses it to rub the soles of her feet for a great massage, or places the ball between her upper back and the back of her seat, then rolls the ball around for a back massage.
I LOVE my wrinkles, spots and large pores! Said no one EVER!
Lately, I've become obsessed with huge pores on my face. If you have oily skin, like I do, that oil gets trapped inside pores, then oxidises and turns dark. Ugh! With old age, collagen and elastin diminishes, so the skin begins to stretch and sag, which can make pores look even bigger.
Then I discovered Kiehl's Precision Lifting & Pore Tightening Concentrate, normally €56, but only €49 at The Loop. I am generally an early bird at the airport, and there's nothing I like better than a roam around the duty-free area.
I nearly kissed the bottle. Actually I did, a few weeks later, when I noticed the nutrient-rich serum, with micro-filtered yeast extracts and geranium oil, has definitely helped to improve the texture of my skin. It looks smoother, with improved skin tone. #PoreWhore
So you've packed your bikinis and kaftans, but have you considered your airport look? Departures is a red carpet now - Miranda Kerr, does 'runway' chic so well. Her travel outfits make me think twice about heading to the airport in my leggings!
For A-lister skin, check out the Clarins dedicated treatment room at the back wall of the beauty area in Terminal 2.
Choose from a selection of 20-minute, mini-facial treatments for free when you purchase three products (one must be for the face). Book your appointment in advance at the Terminal 2 counter, tel: (01) 944-0759.
Now go forth and glow!

This Elizabeth Arden Visible Difference Body Lotion is only €15 up at the airport, see theloop.ie, which is a saving of more than 50pc on recommended downtown prices!
It's the perfect treat at this time of the year when we need our skin to look radiant. It binds in moisture to keep your skin hydrated. So, if you know anybody flying out of the country, get them to grab this bargain for you NOW.
There's always so much great value in The Loop, with skincare savings of between 15pc-40pc. I do a lot of my beauty buying there, and find the staff super friendly and informed. I stock up on large sizes of skincare essentials. I save even more on spendy stuff like Creme de la Mer, as it's less expensive. And there's no need to worry about baggage allowance with the Loop's Shop & Collect service.
I browse online beforehand, where I can also order products in advance, and pick them up at the airport when I return.
We have a family photograph on top of the piano at home in Schull. I've a rather fetching Hermes scarf on, tied at a particularly jaunty angle. Or so I thought. Everyone. Every. Single. Person, who sees that photo asks why I was wearing my air hostess uniform in the photo, and how long I'd flown for!
Pfff! Don't you know only the most stylish can carry off a neck scarf, such as Jo Malone London's Blue Skies & Blossoms collection. These three scents - Exotic Osmanthus Blossom, Plum Blossom and Sakura Cherry Blossom, only €86.50 each at The Loop. Each one is a fantastic floral fragrance and they're all wearing a little scarf. So there!
