Triona's Trends

Having a bad hair day? Getting to a hair salon isn't always possible, so I've gathered up all the best home hair products to sort out my own hair-don't.

Part of my problem is I've been in the sun a lot. I should have been using something like L'Oreal Professionnel Serie Expert Advanced Protection Conditioning Spray, €16.80. This leave-in sun protection for hair is an invisible spray that forms a protective film around the fibre to keep it nourished and safeguard the hair's radiance. The light, non-greasy de-tangling formula leaves hair ultra conditioned with a natural-looking shine.

My other problem is not getting a regular trim. We all know the only way to keep split ends at bay is to cut them off, but this lil hair hero, Kerastase Fibre Architecte, left, €38, temporarily seals the ends of the hair so strands look smoother instantly. It also helps to prevent split ends by making the hair stronger. I'm also going so grey that I now need to colour it every two to three weeks, which isn't always possible with children.

Color Wow Root Cover Up, left, €35 - which I buy from my colourist Lorraine Carty in Queen on Aungier Street. Dublin - is a must. Just brush the product onto dry roots to disguise them and then it lasts until you wash it out.

Finally, the Percy & Reed range from Space NK is designed for redheads, or brunettes like me, who can find traditional dry shampoo formulas leave a residue.

The new Invisible Dry Shampoo, above right, €14.90, has a transparent formula that instantly removes excess oils and revitalises hair and scalp - vanishing without a trace. So, no residue, no powder,
just radiantly refreshed, healthy-looking hair.

Triona's Trick

I love to find unusual uses for everyday products.

My latest is mouthwash! Its antiseptic properties make it a great multi-purpose solution when you need, say, a hand sanitiser, or run out of facial toner, or even deodorant.

I even use it as a toothbrush and toilet-bowl cleaner!

Best of all it's great for babies who bruise themselves constantly, like my own lil
one-year-old Maxi.

Red Alert

Did you ever try to match your nail colour to your red-soled Christian Louboutins? Well guess what, beauty buffs, the diminutive designer has branched out into beauty by launching Christian Louboutin Nail Colour, €45,  available at the concession in Brown Thomas from next Thursday.

Apparently back in the day when Monsieur Louboutin was starting out, he was looking for something to perk up a pair of shoes he'd just designed when he saw someone painting her nails red. He picked up the pot of polish, swiped the soles of the shoes with it and before you know it, a star was born.

Now, 22 years later, the designer is giving back to beauty what the shoe took from the nails many years ago. So there's the iconic red colour, right, as well as a Nudes collection of colours and a dark Noirs collection and some bright colours called Pops as well as a primer and gloss.

Each luxurious shade is inspired by an iconic Louboutin shoe or handbag. As you would expect, the packaging is sublime. The perfectly sculpted, tall cap is inspired by calligraphy and paint brushes, and makes the application a truly artistic experience. The formula is fantastic and each bottle of Rouge Louboutin is enclosed in a beautiful black patent leather-like presentation box with a red reveal - the rest are in a nude-coloured soft touch box with a reveal to match the cap from each colour family. Get in line ladies!

Eye know something...

I must be expecting a girl because I'm McLovin anything pink at the mo. Aurelia Probiotic Skincare,  not only has the most feminine-looking packaging, it's an award-winning skin-care line that helps manage inflammation in the skin.

I can't get enough of the exquisite, essential-oil blends, free from chemicals. Very important for me and Minnie - my bump. I got hooked on the brand after first trying the Eye Revitalising Duo €120, from Space NK. It might seem a bit spendy, but you're getting two products in one. The rollerball Eye Dew is my morning go-to as it instantly cools and de-puffs. At night, the Eye Cream definitely diminishes the appearance of wrinkles.

Most wanted

We were at a wedding in Wicklow recently where a friend of ours, Rosanna Davison married her beau Wes. I headed back down that direction again to check out Anna Schu's new beauty salon in Delgany, north County Wicklow. This salon is the third in her chain, the others are in Stillorgan Shopping Centre, County Dublin, and at the Town Hall in Bray, County Wicklow.

The spa-like salon, with
five-star treatments and premium products, has everything a Miss World or a mere mortal like me needs to look good. You can get Shellac nails, regular manicures or the most relaxing pedicures ever.

Anna also does all manner of waxing and Image Skincare facials, which use pharmaceutical-grade skincare products for professional, effective treatments designed to care for a range of skin types, from teenage acne, to dry and damaged skin.

These vitamin-infused treatments deliver deep nourishment and dewy hydration, to leave skin fully refreshed and renewed. Anna also stocks REN, L'Occitane, Butter London and Noodle & Boo from the US.

For mums-to-be like me, there are maternity massages and facials especially designed for aches and pains and, tired legs and feet. Bliss!

Want a push-up bra for your face? Then check out Armani's new Eye & Brow Maestro €31,  used with the Armani Eye and Brow Maestro Applicator, €24, exclusively from Brown Thomas.

The multi-use cream can be used not only on the eyebrows but also as an eye liner and as an eye shadow. But best of all, given my propensity for silver highlights, I can also use it on my hairline. The nifty lil double-ended brush does it all, from filling in brows to brushing through colour.

Now, what to do about knickers.
