Triona's trends

It's that time of the month - no, not THAT time - it's when my hair reaches that point when I really, really, really should've gotten my colour done, like a week ago, but my next salon appointment is still two weeks away. That time.

It's happening faster and faster these days and my grey hairs are right cheeky pups altogether and love to get noticed, sticking up and trying to get as much attention as possible!

I decided I needed some expert help and asked Clairol nice 'n easy colour adviser Jonathan Long for a few top tips so we can all learn how to get more time between colour jobbies.

Jonathan recommends getting a fringe, or bangs as we now call them, because we've all become American. Bangs are a great way to disguise not only lines on the forehead - earning them the name 'bangtox' for the Botox effect - but also for concealing grey. Jonathan says you can also try changing your parting or doing a zig-zag parting, or you can just use nice 'n easy's reformulated Root Touch-Up, €7.89.

This is actually my own hair must-have as it covers root re-growth in just 10 minutes.

The product's new cream formulation gives long-lasting grey coverage and an even more precise application, and now contains a bigger mixing bowl and finely bristled application brush.

Jonathan's quick tip is to just wet the hairline and parting, and rub the product in well before rinsing and DO NOT forget to do an allergy-alert test 48 hours before you colour your hair. Every. Single. Time.

Because a girl always likes options, Color Wow Root Cover Up, €35, is also a great weapon to have in your arsenal, as it is like concealer for hair.

Just brush the powder onto your dry roots to disguise them and then it lasts until you wash it out.

Top Tip: Use an eyeshadow brush for precise application and to get rid of excess powder, blast hair with a hairdryer.

Republic of cool

Calling all my Cork cailins! My beloved Rebecca Fryday, formerly of Keville Hair in Dublin, has moved to the People's Republic as Keville has opened a new salon there for all my Cork cousins.

Regular readers will remember how award-winning stylist Rebecca got me into a straighter style with a centre-parting a la Demi Moore, pictured. It's a style I now love.

I never really knew what I was doing with my gruaig before, so it was great to outsource all that to Rebecca. Only now she's gone and left me!

Check her out yourself and tell her I miss her at the swanktastic new Keville Hair salon on Academy St/French Church St, Cork. Tel: (021) 427-9467, or see kevillehair.com

Warning! Tom Ford's prices can trigger panic attacks. I'm not joking! My heart starts to pound and I get beads of sweat on my brow when I approach the counter in Brown Thomas.

I know I am cleverly disguised as a fully functioning adult, complete with two children, but still I lose the plot over the fancy-pancy white-and-gold packaging that looks as luxurious as really expensive jewellery.

This season, HRH Pricey Ford has decided to bestow us with a cream blush, and as you would expect, it's crazy expensive at €55 but also outrageously effective. There's just the one shade, Pink Sand, left, which suits everyone with its pinky golden shimmery colour. Although that's the colour my cheeks go naturally when I get all hot and bothered over whether I should buy this or a double buggy!

Cult product

I recently met with actor turned perfumier, Richard E Grant when he launched his latest fragrance in Brown Thomas in Dublin.

Following the success of Jack last year, his second unisex fragrance, Jack Covent Garden, €120, is inspired by the London fruit and flower market where he worked as a waiter before making it big on films.

I love how he doesn't believe in male-only or female-only fragrances.

So there are notes of orange, lime, iris and musk, which you can buy for yourself and your boy. I swear Will and I aren't fighting over it in the morning now!

Save the date!

Will and I are thinking of having our wedding in August next year. That gives me roughly 14 months to get my shizz together.

Agghhrrr! I find it hard enough to get my work done, feed my babies, clean my babies, clean my house, clean myself AND the babies, and, and, and . . . phew, I nearly ran out of breath there!

No wonder I love products that work as hard as I do, like P20 Once A Day 10 Hours Sun Protection, from €19.99. The  non-greasy, non-oily and fragrance-free coverage, both in and out of the water, offers broad-spectrum UV protection, covering both UVA and UVB rays and retains its effectiveness even on extended exposure to the sun.
