Going on! Triona McCarthy's tips for a fast but effective morning beauty routine

It's back-to-school time and Maxi's mum, Triona McCarthy, has got it going on with her beauty basics, hair heroes, make-up must-haves and much, much more
We've got it all going on in Trilliam Towers. My little threenager, Maxi, has started Montessori, so we're now entering a whole new era, folks! I have to get him in for 8.30am. Every. Single. Morning! Well Monday-to-Friday, that is. I never really knew what peeps meant by 'it's a school night'. I do now!
So, my morning beauty routine is fast, but effective.
It's all about the prep. Once a month, I have my hair coloured -I'm so grey. And, after that, I pop into Shavata Brow Studio in Harvey Nichols in Dundrum to have my eyebrows shaped and my lashes tinted, tel: (01) 291-0488.
I go to Karla or Justina in Genevieve (see genevieve.com) for a two-week manicure, which actually lasts me nearly a month. Top tip: I have my nails super, super short to begin with, then they really, really last.
This makes everything so much easier when I wake in the morning, because sometimes you have to be high maintenance to be low maintenance.
Then I just lash on a little bareMinerals Complexion Rescue, above, €39, a tinted hydrating gel-cream with SPF 30 - which is now available in 16 new shades.
It has great coverage for something that feels so light. If I have time, I'll do a bit of mascara, but mainly I just lash on my bagsy Lip Cocoon in Raspberry, below, €10, from Debenhams.
This tinted balm gives my lips a hydration hit as well as a hint of colour, and it doesn't go all over Maxi's head as I kiss him goodbye.
Olympians Gary and Paul O'Donovan just make me feel good about the world. Being from west Cork myself adds to my love. So now I have #closeyoureyesandpulllikeadog and #shteakandspuds written in lipstick on the mirror in the bathroom, where I go first thing in the morning and last thing at night - and that, my friends, is a beauty tip!
Since getting my Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, I'm now blow-drying my hair at home most of the time. Who'd a thunk it? I always found it so hard to do my hair before, but this hairdryer makes my hair so soft and shiny.
In fact, I get really pass-ag if somebody is blow-drying my hair in a salon with a really crappy dryer, and burning the head off me, and I then have to pay them for the pleasure!
So yeah, I'm now able to blow-dry my hair myself. And I like it!
I needed some brushes, and came across the Pro Blo Curl Me set, above €49.99, on Glamazon.ie, Ireland's newest on-line beauty destination.
This hair-styling system includes six ceramic brush barrels and a detachable brush so that, as you go, you can leave the brush barrels in your hair to cool, creating a smoother, bouncier curl, just like when you're having a profesh blow-dry. I think I'm great altogether now, the head on me!
I popped into Preen Salon to check out their new, beautifully illustrated Preen Me menu, where you get a full make-up application and blow-dry or updo for €80.
So you could go for the Topknot hairstyle and the Femme Fatale make-up application, which is basically what Kendall Jenner, above, is rocking, and also the look that MUA Judy Wong applied on moi.
I adore Judy, and the adorable rascal Jordan from First Dates - remember him? - also works here, and was as lively as ever, sporting the best highlighter from Anastasia of Beverley Hills.
But back to the salon. It's so chic. Everything from the background music, to the cute crockery and the coffee is beautifully thought-out.

Triona's most wanted
When we drive to west Cork, before we've even backed out the gate, Maxi already wants to know if we're near 'old McDonald's' at Cashel services.
It always makes us laugh, when he says it, and never gets old.
Unlike my flipping neck! Honestly, I can't even look at it at the moment, and know that half the problem is the amount of time I spend staring down into my smartphone. Smartphones, btw folks, do not make you smart! It's true though, all that looking down shortens the neck muscles and increases the gravitational pull on the jowl area.
So I have such a saggy neck on me, I decided, as well as holding my phone up over my head, much to the amusement of Will and the kids, I'd try this new Neck Cream from Sisley, above, €128.
Thanks to some pretty powerful slimming, active ingredients, it has an immediate lifting and smoothing effect, while also delivering hydration and nutrition.
I use it at night in bed and do a bit of a massage when applying it. I basically grab myself by the throat and kind of strangle myself - but in a good way - and I say all the vowels, as it exercises the jaw.
Anyhoo, after six weeks, I'm seeing a difference. And I like it. Sing it for me, Old McCarthy had a new cream, E-I-E-I owe . . . a fortune to Sisley!
My latest #girlcrush is MUA and illustrator Isamaya Ffrench. Check out her Instagram and Tumblr.
One of her must-haves is purple mascara to make all eye colours pop. Try YSL's Vinyl Couture Mascara, above, €35, in No7 I'm The Craze, an intense violet.
It took YSL four years of research and more than 400 trials to transform vinyl into mascara through the power of liquid technology and pure pigments.
