Triona McCarthy

This week, our resident beauty buff is teaching us how to get glam in a jiffy, get skin like a supermodel and cleanse our face fast in serious style.

Triona's trends

'You should never be too busy to be beautiful' is one of my main mantras, but with Mini and Maxi, my two little ones, needing so much attention, I've got my glamming-up technique down to five minutes max. As long  as I have my lips and my nails done,  I'm happy!

I recently got a two-week manicure. The therapist used essie gel, from the brand's salon range, in Fiery Spice, left; it's the perfect orangey-red colour that goes with absolutely anything, and the gel polish cuts out so much time, as it only needs to be done in a salon every two weeks. Fifth Avenue, from essie's regular range, is exactly the same shade as Fiery Spice, so it's perfect for touch-ups, so I can prolong my two-week mani that bit longer!

I team my nails with a high-impact lip, which makes me look like I've spent way longer getting myself together than I actually have. So I always have my Kohl lipstick in Geranium, €22, and the lip liner in Take Me, €17.50, both from Brown Sugar. I'm wearing the essie nail polish and the Kohl lippie in my photo, this week.

My new Armani Luminous Silk powder compact not only gives a flawless finish in under a minute, it is also perfectly portable, so it's ideal for glamming on the go and any touch-ups throughout the day.

Multiple-use products, made legendary by Nars, handily double-up as lipstick, brow highlighter, eye gloss and cheek shimmer, so are must-haves, and will save space in your make-up bag.

My absolute fave is Nars The Multiple in Orgasm, €35. I smooth a little over my cheeks as a blusher/bronzer, and I even use it on it my lips. Then I do my eyelash-curler trick - see Triona's Tricks, below - and add a coat of mascara, and I'm good to go! You're welcome!

Triona's trick

This really is the ultimate lazy girl's make-up trick. Simply draw some black kohl eyeliner onto your eyelash curlers so that when you curl your lashes, you're also lining your eyes at the same time! You need to squeeze the curlers a few times, but it really works, and you get a soft, lined look in less than 10 seconds.

Regular readers will know how I absolutely adore my Clarisonic, for the best cleaning action ever, day and night, and all in only 60 seconds.

It's the gentle back-and-forth oscillations - over 300 per second - that flex and flush the pores and actually cleanse up to six times better than just using your hands. It also helps any product that's applied after cleansing to be absorbed better and work more effectively.

Anyhoo, they've only gone and done the most amazing new version, below, as they have collaborated with the Keith Haring Foundation to offer their first-ever artist series of special-edition devices, available from next week.

Keith Haring's distinctive bold, energetic art exploded in the early 1980s, and his life-long activism drove his work until his death in 1990, of Aids-related complications.

The collaboration consists of three distinctively designed devices, priced from €149 each. The only problem is, I want all of them, Santa!

Stars in their eyes

Check out The Salon at The Shelbourne, the newly opened, chic salon in my favourite five-star hotel, for manis, pedis, express beauty treatments and a specialist blow-dry bar, and you could look as sophisticated as top model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

The Salon is open seven days a week, from early morning to late at night, and the Elemis express 30-minute treatments are a must, as they make every minute count, delivering maximum results in minimum time.

Try The Shelbourne Breakfast Club Package - a wash and blow-dry accompanied by tea or coffee, a decadent pastry and a selection of fruit - while you browse the web with one of the complimentary iPads from the comfort of your treatment chair. They've really thought of everything at The Shelbourne, haven't they?

Charlotte Tilbury's luxe advent calendar, The Book Of Makeup Magic, €195 from Brown Thomas, is seriously spendy - but just take a little look at what you get!

Each day, the magical make-up cabinets reveal a miracle-working product from her award-winning collection, so there's a fabulous mix of travel-sized and full-sized skincare products.

Let's see then, there are minis of Tilbury's super-duper Magic Cream; Take It All Off; Wonderglow; Multi Miracle Glow; Supermodel Body; Goddess Skin Clay Mask; Kissing Lipstick; and Rock 'n' Kohl Eye Liner.

Then there are full sizes of Lip Magic; Matte Revolution Lipstick; Nocturnal Cat Eyes Eye Shadow, and, OK, OK, I'm running out of breath here and I haven't even told you about the very best bit.

When you open Day 12, the last day of the calendar, you get a mini pot of Charlotte's brand-new Night Cream, which hasn't even been launched yet!

Charlotte, you're killing me with all your amazing products and launches. I adore everything you do, and your 'easy to choose and easy to use' motto makes buying and using your make-up and skincare perfect for a frazzled mum like me!

Now I know this 40 Blinks by Bucky eye masks, €22.50, available from Seagreen stores in Ranelagh and Monkstown, looks a little like a bra for your eyeballs, but it is the most comfortable eye mask I've ever worn. It provides complete blackout and leave room for eyelashes too, so no more eyelashes at right angles in the morning! No wonder celebrities are always papped wearing them like headbands as they disembark from flights. See seagreen.ie
