Our skin has been put to the test with the sticky summer weather taking its toll . In an attempt to smooth, soften and hopefully lock in the moisture, we at Independent Woman have been trawling the beauty aisles to find the best dry oils to nourish dowdy summer skin.

Here are our four of the best:

Huile Sublime by Roger and Gallet

Huile Sublime by Roger and Gallet delicately nourishes skin with the added bonus of smelling suitably summery. This works just as well for face and hair as it does for body.

Combining no less then six different oils - argan to hydrate, almond to soften, camelia to restore, macadamia to nourish, evening primrose to protect and sesame to soothe, it also enriches and repairs with Vitamin E. Recognised for having good anti-oxidant properties, this should leave skin nourished in no time.

Available from selected pharmacies, priced at €25

Ahava Multi Vitamin Dry Oil

Crammed with vitamins and anti-oxidants, Ahava's Multi Vitamin Dry Oil works a treat for more mature skin. The algae extract helps combat the signs of ageing while omega-3 and omega-6 will help restore stressed out skin. A few drops on parched skin will help toward silky soft skin and the mandarin and cedarwood oils will leave skin lightly fragranced.

Available from www.ahava.co.uk, priced at £24 for 100ml

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse

If you are on the look out for an oil to repair your skin try Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse. High in vitamin E and made with 30% plant oils including borage, Saint John's Wort and hazelnut, the oil works a treat on restoring everything from dull, tired skin to stretch marks.

Flat hair can also be brought back to life with a few drops, leaving it glossy, bouncy and full of shine and is perfect anyone wishing to get more out of the bottle.

Available from Arnotts, priced at €17.50 for 50ml

Skin So Soft Replenishing Dry Oil

Avon's super-light Replenishing Dry Oil perks up skin without the residue you might expect from a product in this price range. Easily absorbed, the spray is kind on the nose as much as it is kind on the skin and rumour has it the formula has also been known to keep pesky mosquitoes at bay. A decent suitcase addition for any accidental traveller.

Available from Avon, priced at €3 for 150ml
