Golden, copper or just plain old orange! Choosing the perfect summer bronzer is no easy task. In a desperate attempt to liven up our lily white skin, we at Independent Woman have been swirling a trail through make-up counters to find you the best bronzers.

Here are our four favourites:

Chanel Limited Edition Bronze Rose Soleil

Chanel's Bronze Rose Soleil is perfect bronzer for keeping things calm and cool. Featuring shades from deep brown to candy pink, shades can be mixed for a beautiful natural bronze or worn alone to give cheeks a more refined injection of colour. Like most things Chanel, the compact is well thought out and comes with a soft brush and a large mirror - the perfect handbag companion !

Available from Chanel, priced at €49

Clarins Mosaique Summer Bronzing Compact

Skin seeking sumptuous shading will love the Mosaique Summer Bronzing Compact by Clarins. Combining tiny tiles of sheer colour, the shimmering powder is complimented by shades of bronze and sand which work together to give skin a beautifully bronzed finish. Great for working over larger areas, the large pan size means application on arms and legs is a breeze and topping up on the go is a doddle - perfect for the holidays !

Available from Clarins counters, priced at €31

Mac Mineral Bronzer in Give Me Sun

Sun worshippers seeking some serious glow will be dazzled by MAC's Give Me Sun Mineral Bronzer. Part of the Permanent Collection, the lightweight mineral formula gives skin a deep tan which can be smoothed down for more subtle shading or built up for a full on beachy glow. As the matte compact is pretty much shimmer free, the end result is a natural bronzer, perfect for evening wear.

Available from Mac, priced at €26.50

Guarlains Teracotta Light for Blondes

Fairer skinned ladies on the hunt for lighter looking shading have just the palette in Teracotta Light by Guarlain. Combining shades of sand and tan with a delicate pink highlighter, the lightly fragranced powder leaves even the fairest of skin looking sun kissed. If you prefer to build and shade as well as swirl, Guarlain's sheer formula means the chances of overdoing it are slim to none !

Available from Brown Thomas, priced at €44
