With browned, bronzed, sun-kissed skin taking centre stage during the summer months it's a sad but true fact that blushers are often left in the shade. Mindful of the fact that the tan look isn't for everyone, we at Independent Woman have been pacing the beauty aisles in search of the best in summer blushers.

Here's what we found.

Best combination blusher:

Estee Lauder Limited Edition Bronze Goddess Exotic Bronzing Blush

Ladies who don't fancy ditching the bronze but still like the odd flutter with the blusher may find a very comfortable compromise in Estee Lauder's Exotic Bronzing Blush.

The limited edition compact combines a delicate powder pink with a light dusty bronzer which leaves cheeks lightly flushed but with that all-important sun-kissed glow.

As good as a quick dab is for daytime wear, those of you looking for an even deeper shimmer will be pleased to discover the shade layers well for a darker flush of summer colour.

Available from Estee Lauder Counters, priced at €30.

Best for busy bees:

Clinique Quick Blush

Perfect if you like your rouge on the go. Clinique's Quick Blush combines a retractable brush with a fragrance free blush which, as well as looking good, saves the spectacle of you looking round for your compact on the floor of a taxi.

As the powder is cleverly located in the lid, two twists and one good hand is all it takes for perfectly pink cheeks.

Aside from the fact it's easy to apply, Quick Blush also blends beautifully and the powder is of regular compact quality. For those who love to recycle, the brush can be re-used once the blush runs out!

Quick Blush is available from Clinique Counters, priced at €32

Best for the loud and the proud:

MAC Dollymix

If you prefer your blush on the brighter side, MAC's Dollymix is ideal. As this particular shade is very, very pink, it may be suited to those with a lighter touch for daytime wear and, although this is a great shade, it is bright and might not be for everyone.

If you've got good bones, team this with natural eyes and lips for a soft, fresh, summer look.

Dollymix is available from Mac priced at €21.50

Best for closet romantics:

Benefit Sugar Bomb

With a combination of pink, peach, plum and rose, a light dusting of Benefit's Sugar Bomb is enough to provide a blush that's more natural and neutral than your usual rouge.

Great as a softer colour for lighter skin types, the blush can be worn as light as you like or as heavy as you need. If that weren't enough motivation then you may be swayed by the handbag-friendly compact which comes with a good brush.

Sugar Bomb is available from Benefit counters priced at €33.50
