It's a truth rarely acknowledged but sandals are actually pretty hard on your feet. So even if you've been diligently taking care of your toes, sometimes you need to unleash the big guns.

A medi pedi is the treatment to choose when a regular pedicure just can't cut the mustard. This paramedical treatment will sort out even the most stubborn dry, hard, cracked or calloused skin.

That's why I found myself in the pedicure room of Dublin's Urbana salon on Wicklow St. As I reclined in the vibration chair, therapist Vickie applied a callous remover made of medicated glycolic acid, which is used to remove dead skin cells and provide maximum exfoliation.

Next up was a remarkably rich moisturising cream full of anti-inflammatories and anti-oxidants, followed by a foot mask -- my poor beleaguered feet were in heaven at this stage.

The next step involved a blissful foot and leg massage, followed by a nail polish. Afterwards it felt as if I was walking on air. The 85-minute treatment costs €90. Call Urbana on 01 6351616 or log on to
