Beauty Trial: Geleration three week manicure

Sinead Van Kampen

This week we have, once again, been primping and preening on your behalf trying out geleration, the latest in nailcare.

What is it?

The Jessica Geleration manicure is a gel nail polish which soaks off after application. Lasting for up to three weeks and available through Jessica approved salons, with a choice of 26 different colours.

The process:

Nails are prepared in a similar way to a file & paint with a buff, file and priming treatment. After a bonding agent has been applied, thin gel layers are bonded onto the nail before being dried at each stage under a heatlamp. After a topcoat of clear gel is placed over the nails, strength, sheen and shape are built using two further coats of a sealing lacquer.

The result:

Perfectly polished yet frighteningly flexible nails guaranteed not to chip or break for three weeks after application.

Why you should:

As the product is layered like polish, the results look really natural with the profile being much thinner than standard gel nails. Although the whole thing sounds quite convoluted, there is very little damage to the nail bed underneath and in all the treatment takes less than an hour.

Why you shouldn't:

Once you've got them on these babys don't budge. As the gel cannot be painted over with a standard polish, choosing a shade you'll be happy with for the duration could be a bit tricky. At the moment the colours that make up the collection seem to be quite bright so if are looking for something really discreet this might not be for mani for you.

Is it worth it ?

Yes. The nail profile is quite elegant and the shine and finish look quite good. As this is a colour range only, you will also be spared the temptation of more gaudy designs ... don't pretend you've never been tempted !

How do I get an appointment?

To book an appointment phone Dylan Bradshaw on 01 6719353 or call in at 56 South William Street, Dublin 2.
