Beauty masterclass with Zoe Clark
Make-up artist Zoe Clark, of Kazumi, gives us all her tips on big event make-up.
What are the most requested looks for women for big events in the following age groups:
20s-30s: This really depends on the girl, but I find the younger lady is heavily influenced by what she sees on social media. As a general rule, this age group goes for the more dramatic looks, asking for more coverage, contouring, full lashes, smoky eyes, thicker liner, etc - the entire works!
30s-50s: I find that ladies over 30 are less bothered about copying trends. They are more interested in what suits them personally. They are generally all about the skin and just want to look beautiful rather than heavily made up. They can still ask for eye shadow, liner and lashes, but perhaps not in an obvious way.
50+: I love working with this age group as they are usually the most impressed by what make-up can do for them! They usually ask for a make-up to enhance and to add a youthful glow, shying away from the heavier foundations and eye make-up. They usually are the most natural in their requests, striving for a more sophisticated look.
What are the top tips to help our make-up last the day?
Use a primer under your foundation or tinted moisturiser. Go for as sheer a texture of base as possible and use a concealer/illuminator to hide shadows. Then a dust of powder to set everything. My tip is to keep everything on the skin as 'skinny' as possible.
Are there any products suitable for long-wear?
I always use a primer, such as Smashbox Photo Finish (right, ¤33) or L'Oreal Paris Mattifying Primer. I tend to go for sheer textured foundations like Yves St Laurent's Touché Eclat foundation for oilier skin and MAC Face and Body for the normal to dry client. Favourite long-wear concealers would be MAC Studio Finish, or their Longwear concealers. My top powder is MAC's Select Sheer Pressed compact powder as it is so silky and light that it doesn't cake. Urban Decay has a great eyeliner primer.
What products should women bring with them to refresh their look throughout the day?
Blotting powder or an all-in-one powder foundation such as MAC'S Studio Fix (above right, ¤31.50). Bring your lipstick and your blusher in your handbag for emergency touch-ups. And keep and eye out for any eyeliner runs - a few cotton buds can be handy for that!
