Beauty: Five of the best fresh summer fragrances
Published 20/07/2014 | 02:30
Choosing the right scent for summer is a major beauty conundrum. More often than not, you want something fresh, clean and light. Why? Well, experts say heat and humidity intensify fragrances so something overly heavy or warm, with spicy or oriental scents, will overpower.
What should you look for? Well, citrus notes scream summer, as do florals. If you want something light and feminine without being insipid, Chanel's Chance eau Fraiche and Jo Malone's Silk Blossom won't disappoint. Both wear well.
The latest from Thierry Mugler – Alien Eau Extraordinaire – is also beautifully ladylike but slightly stronger. Ideal for a summer wedding, or an event for which you need your perfume to last. For holidays, consider Bobbi Brown's Beach. It smells exactly how a summer scent should. Because I'm more conscious of perspiring during summer, I tend to be more liberal with my perfume use, therefore it's worth having a more affordable option such as White Orchid from M&S at hand at all times.
Glam Matte Lip Gloss, €11.99, L'Oreal, available in selected grocery stores and pharmacies nationwide
Incredible colour pay-off with the result that you need very little product for full lip saturation. And the matte effect means they last really well too. I'll be buying all four shades!
Grandiose Mascara, €30, Lancôme, available exclusively at Brown Thomas and from Lancôme counters nationwide from July 30
Loads of hype, with loads of justification. This is one seriously good mascara. The 'swan-neck' brush makes long, fanned-out lashes easy to achieve. You may throw away those falsies, as they're no longer needed.
