Beauty Buzz: Chanel's summer make-up collection
Published 22/04/2010 | 11:06
Chanel's summer make-up collection for 2010 is a full swatch of joyful candy pop colours. Created by Peter Philips and inspired by the idea of an ideal summer's day, the range features plenty by way of brights with blues, pinks and corals offering a gloss to the base of a surprisingly wearable launch.
Brights, seem to be this summers look for lips. If lippy is your thing, then you will fall in love Chanel's three new lipsticks. Pinks, super fuscias and bold corals all feature with a dash of wearability coming from more muted tones.
In keeping with last season's big nude trend, palettes for eyes and cheeks are soft and refined. Pastels with softly-softly browns for bronzing, ochre and dusted pinks for summer eyes, and a perfectly muted noir shade for mascara being a sight for soft eyes.
The collection should suit all occasions from weddings to wearing at work.
The Chanel beauty must-have last season was the nail polish. The gorgeous shade Particuliere became an instant cult classic and still sells on eBay for five times the original price for anyone daft enough to try and get hold of some.
This season's nail swatches promise to be just as popular. This summer's selection of hot and cool pinks are whimsical and work so well with the brighter lip shades.
My tip, for both wearability and collectability, is the turquoise perfection of Nouvelle Vague. Having now got my hands on a bottle, the thought of it chipping is like breaking a china service.
If your make-up bag is currently brimming and the budget is squeezed under the weight of seasonal beauty purchases, a hint of summer scent may be more you. The best selling Chanel fragrance Chance has been given a lighter twist for summer. With notes of grapefruit, quince and jasmine it has an unmistakably light fragrance.
In the event you've come this far and still can't see what the fuss is about, take comfort from the lady herself, Coco Chanel. When asked once on the subject of colour, the mercurial mademoiselle elegantly replied: "The best colour in the whole world is the one that looks good on you."
Chance Eau Tendre is currently on counters priced at €78 for 100ml.
The Le Vernis Polish and Rouge Allure Lipsticks will be available from brown Thomas from May 7th.
