The actress is usually the epitome of perfection when she makes a public appearance, however Angelina’s recent makeup mishap shows that she is just like the rest of us.

Aside from the obvious white powder – perhaps made more visible in the glare of photographic flashes - Angelina (38) managed to appear sophisticated in a simple black satin dress at the New York premiere of The Normal Heart on Monday Might.

The Normal Heart, profiling the HIV-AIDS crisis in New York City between 1981 and 1984, was produced by her husband Brad Pitt.

Angelina is the title star of the hotly anticipated Maleficent, a $200million production that retells the story of Sleeping Beauty from the perspective of the menacing character.

The two-time Oscar-winning actress recently spoke about why she prefers to play villains: "What isn't there to like about Maleficent? She was my favourite when I was little. I wasn't into princesses and I thought she was so elegant and so powerful," she said.

"She scared me a little bit, but I think it's a natural thing for children, and everybody to want to understand their fears and to get closer to those things - the shadows, the dark and what frightens us - so I was always curious."

Angelina’s five-year-old daughter Vivienne makes her acting debut in the film. Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville, Juno Temple and Imelda Staunton also star in the film.

Angelina picked Lana Del Rey to sing the main theme song of the film, ‘Once Upon a Dream’.

Maleficent is due for release on May 30th 2014- the 55th anniversary of Walt Disney’s classic Sleeping Beauty (1959).
