Aisling Keenan: Red-carpet treatment
Aisling Keenan on how you can create Hollywood glamour with your make-up
With the awards season's biggest event just behind us, Hollywood glamour is big news everywhere.
People always want to know how to recreate that flawless, Oscar-night look for themselves.
Jackie Tyson is a make-up artist with Avon and she has made up stars such as Sienna Miller and Yasmin Le Bon.
When it comes to red-carpet make-up, people don't just go for a 'look', she says -- what celebrities request, above all else, is flawless perfection.
"Rather than recreating a particular look, I always opt to make the face as camera and flash-friendly as possible," Jackie explains.
"Every little detail shows up, so luminous skin and perfect lips are an absolute must."
Here are some key products to help you create that classic Oscar-night glam look of a striking red lip and a daring eyeliner flick -- then all you have to do is hit the red carpet.
Finding the right texture, shade and coverage to suit your skin is a challenge. But whatever foundation you choose, for flawless coverage MAC has it covered with its Studio Sculpt range. It’s gel-based, so it’s light on the skin but will pass the camera-flash test easily.

To give your foundation the best possible base, a primer is a must. It will give an even surface for your foundation. I love Avon’s Magix Face Perfector — it doesn’t feel greasy on the skin, and a little goes a long way. Oh, and it has an SPF20, essential for keeping skin healthy.
Avon Magix Face Perfector, €15, find your local representative on www.avon.ie.
To make your eyes redcarpet- ready, you need them to stand out. Channel your inner Angelina Jolie with a thick eyeliner flick at either corner of your eyes. The internet is full of great tutorials to help you create proportioned flicks. I have fallen in love with a new gel liner lately — it has a gorgeous consistency, stays where you put it and the brush can give you a thin line or a dramatic wing.
Maybelline EyeStudio Gel Eyeliner, €11.99, pharmacies and department stores nationwide.
The final touch, adding a pop of colour and glam, is your lippy. No matter what your skin tone, a rich-red colour will make you feel irresistible. Don’t let your lipstick wear you — pull it off with confidence, as if you’ve been wearing it all your life. Make Up For Ever has a range based on the Moulin Rouge. Its deepred lipstick is full of intense pigment and is really creamy.
Make Up For Ever Moulin Rouge Artist Intense Lipstick, €19, Make Up For Ever, Clarendon Street, Dublin 2.
An invaluable piece of advice is to get the best foundation brush you can afford: it will make the cheapest foundation look great. Using the right tools with your make-up is half the battle. Use a great foundation brush to blend your foundation evenly into your skin for a barely there, line-free finish.
Chanel Foundation Brush, €44, Chanel counter in Brown Thomas.
