After two decades in the limelight, Kate Moss finally reveals her greatest beauty secret

More than 20 years after she first found fame, Kate Moss remains one of the coolest women in fashion. So we were surprised to learn that her beauty secrets are rather more teenage sleepover than on the cutting edge of beauty trends.
Moss told W Magazine that she rarely drinks coffee and is keen on juice cleanses, but that her top beauty tip came from the movie Mommie Dearest. “Those old school tricks work!" said Moss, of her habit of dunking her face into a basin of ice-cold water in the mornings. "With slices of cucumber and you just put your face in it and you definitely wake up. It definitely works, because all the blood comes to the surface.”
We do definitely remember hearing ice cold water is good for the face, and that cucumbers inject back lost moisture, but is it really true?
“Actually, using very cold water to wash your face causes blood vessels in the skin to constrict which decreases blood flow," says Dr Alexis Granite, Kiehls since 1851 consulting dermatologist. "However cold water can definitely help wake you up as it tends to be more refreshing than water at warmer temperatures and also may reduce puffiness.
And as for the cucumbers? "Cucumbers have a high water content that may boost skin hydration and also contain anti-oxidants and silica for rejuvenation," says Dr Alexis. "Not sure this combination will turn any of us into the next Kate Moss, but it certainly can't hurt to try."
Moss also confessed that she has not always looked after her skin very well. "I don’t think English people do, in general," said Moss (speak for yourself). "It wasn’t a big thing. Now it’s getting big, but back in the day…"
That change in attitude is influencing daughter Lila Grace, who is a lot more into beauty than her mother was at her age: "Oh, she knows more than me now!" Moss told the magazine. "She’s into natural, organic. Now, she’s into mascara and beauty blogs and stuff."
Hear that, beauty bloggers. You are but one mother-daughter conversation away from revolutionising Kate Moss' skincare routine.
