On your marks: Pippa Middleton and her brother James have embarked on a 3,000 mile charity bike ride across America.
The siblings will take part in the gruelling Race Across America which spans twelve states, raising money for charities including the British Heart Foundation.
Pippa, who is the sole female in the team of eight cyclists, was pictured in her patriotic kit at the start line in San Diego this weekend.
The race takes part over eight days, finishing up in Annapolis, Maryland.
Pippa and James are no strangers to ultra endurance events; in 2012, they took part in a seven hour cross country ski marathon in Sweden.
However, even the super fit pair will find this race challenging, as only 200 people have successfully completed the course in its thirty year history.
To date, only a handful of women have entered the race and its organiser Rick Boethling believes “Pippa is a tough cookie”.
Also on their team is James Matthew, a former flame of Pippa’s and brother of Made In Chelsea’s love rat Spencer.
Pippa and James are also cycling to raise funds for The Michael Matthews Foundation, named after the former’s brother, a young adventurer who died in 1999, aged 22, descending Mount Everest.
As for protecting her most infamous asset- the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister said she has stocked up on plenty of chamois cream.
She told the Mail on Sunday:
“I think every cyclist including me will be layering it on. Once we get going it’s non-stop, with very little sleep. It’s nerve-racking but exciting and all for a great cause.”
