Directed by acclaimed Harry Potter filmmaker David Yates and featuring an incredible star-studded cast including Alexander Skarsgård, Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz and Djimon Hounsou, this stunning reimaging of the iconic tale, which swings into Irish cinemas on the 6th of July is a heart-pounding experience not to be missed.
Capturing the wild majesty of the Congolese jungle, The Legend of Tarzan features dramatic landscapes, epic action sequences and powerfully emotional animals rendered through cutting-edge visual effects.
The Legend of Tarzan is a contemporary take on the Edgar Rice Burroughs’ character John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke, the archetypal feral child, raised in the Congolese Jungle by wild Mangani apes. The film follows the same narrative, Tarzan is raised by apes but is discovered as an adult and returns to civilisation, only to become disillusioned with the modern world and return to his roots in the African Jungle.
In The Legend of Tarzan, Clayton is invited back from his aristocratic life in London as Ambassador of the Congo Free State, unaware that he has become a pawn in a deadly convergence of greed and revenge, masterminded by the corrupt Belgian Captain Léon Rom (Christoph Waltz).
Director, David Yates took on the project, he read many, many scripts but settled on this one as it surpassed all expectations. The film is essentially a romantic action film but there are powerful themes of interconnectedness between man and nature, the bond of love between man and woman, of the importance of family, the strength of women and the powerful and emotional life of animals.
All the action takes place against the dramatic backdrop of the virgin rain forest of the Congo and the film utilises the very cutting-edge in special effects and CGI to make a thrilling and thoroughly modern reimagining of The Legend of Tarzan that also taps into some of the themes that affect all of us in the modern age. It’s the ultimate summer blockbuster that really does have something for all the family.
