GALLERY: Recognising Retail Excellence
We look behind-the-scenes at the most prestigious event of the Irish retail calendar – The Retail Excellence Awards 2016.
On Saturday 5th November, those who are part of the retail industry travelled with their co-workers, families and friends from across Ireland to celebrate their dedication to excellence at this year’s Retail Excellence Awards at the Radisson Blu, Galway. The Awards, which were presented by renowned Irish television and radio personality Hector Ó hEochagáin, were also attended by Minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor and more than 500 Irish retailers.
Coming up to its 20th year of recognising excellence in the Irish retail industry, The Retail Excellence Awards attract more and more entries each year. It is THE leading retail industry benchmark of excellence. The Awards celebrate the best in Irish retail across stores, people, ecommerce and social media.
This year there were a number of new awards, including Ireland’s Friendliest Place Award, Consumer Choice Award and Best Digital Campaign Award. The finalists and, in particular, the winners are those who ranked highest in service and standards, finance and are quite simply the best retailers in Ireland.
This year’s Awards saw Greenacres, Co Wexford take away the highly sought-after title of National Store of the Year 2017.
“It means a huge amount to us at Greenacres to win the Retail Excellence National Store of the Year Award,” says owner James O’Connor. “Ours is a truly family run business managed by a passionate, hardworking and loyal team who love their work. Greenacres specialises in producing, distributing and selling fine food and wine in a unique venue at the heart of Wexford town and the O’Connor family has been on Wexford Main Street continuously in business since before 1860. We are so, so proud of our town, our staff and our loyal customers – the award means so much to us all. Retail Excellence supports all retailers and we are delighted to be part of such a fantastic network.”
Eugene Scally, Scally’s SuperValu, Clonakilty, winner of the in augural Consumer Choice Award 2017, also feels proud of their win.
“Being shortlisted by Retail Excellence for the Consumer Choice Award meant a lot to us but to win the inaugural award is a real honour – we were thrilled to hear that we got over 40% of the votes. The excitement and atmosphere created instore with our customers in the run up to the announcement was brilliant to see and reflects our ethos of being here to support and serve our customers at every turn. Our team are absolutely delighted to receive this award and our customers are nearly as proud of our wins as we are. We love to work with local food producers and are delighted to be part of the SuperValu Food Academy. Situated as we are on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, we extend a warm welcome to visitors to our store, and to the vibrant town of Clonakilty.
