The life sciences industry is a critical component of the Irish economy generating exports of €50 billion in 2013 (27% of national total), and with a total employment of 52,000.
This industry provides a wide range of excellent employment opportunities across all levels for operators, technicians, engineers, scientists, analysts, graduates, administration, management and support staff. This industry has seen 1,000 jobs announced in the last number of months from companies including Lilly, Regeneron, Alexion, BioMarin, Mallinckrodt and BMS. A key challenge to job seekers in this sector is the requirement to have prior experience in a highly regulated biopharma manufacturing environment.
To help job seekers overcome this challenge, NIBRT is providing free, part-time, accredited training programmes for those who are currently unemployed. The programmes are specifically designed to assist people seeking employment in the biopharmaceutical industry and are supported by leading companies including Alexion, Allergan, Amgen, BioMarin, Bristol Myers Squibb, Eurofins Lancaster Labs, IDA, Lilly, Merck Sharp Dohme, NexVet, Pfizer, PharmaChemical Ireland, PPD, Regeneron.
Courses feature practical hands-on experience in NIBRT's biopharmaceutical production plant to provide applicants with the practical skills and experience required by the biopharmaceutical industry. NIBRT's biopharmaceutical production plant replicates a modern biopharmaceutical plant with state of the art equipment. These facilities are all operated in a realistic GMP operational manufacturing environment.
Classroom-based and online courses are available. 60%+ of graduates from NIBRT Springboard courses are now in full-time employment.
