When David Dodd began looking for employment, he felt that his lack of qualifications was holding him back

"It was something I kept coming up against. I really felt that it was something that I needed in order to progress."

So David decided to undertake the Computer System and Software Design course at North East College.

"The reason I chose this course is simple. A lot of areas are struggling in Ireland and I wanted to get my foot into an industry that is constantly growing and booming."

David has two children and found balancing learning with home life a juggling act.

"It was tricky. I never thought I'd go back to education but once I focussed it all came into place. It's a new avenue for me and I'm finding the course really interesting.

"The course allows me to do a lot of the work in my own time and that has made a huge difference to me."

David will complete his Springboard+ course next June. By that stage he will have a diploma. But what's next?

"Hopefully things will start turning around for me employment wise. I would also love to do a night course so I could finish my degree. I think that would be a real achievement.

"The main thing when undertaking a Springboard+ course is that you are willing to put the work in and understand that it's not going to be an easy path, but you'll get there."
