You spend so much time focusing on the man that you forget the people behind him.

Conor McGregor's fighting ability and oratory skills are so compelling to follow that it is easy to forget that he has friends and family who have to watch a loved one enter into the Octagon without knowing what sort of condition he will leave it in.

It had been a relatively comfortable watch for McGregor's inner cirlce throughout his career before last weekend, as the Dubliner hadn't been beaten since 2010 and finished a lot of his fights with early knockouts.

But last Saturday was different altogether. McGregor struggled at the higher weight class and was ultimately submitted in brutal fashion by the American Nate Diaz. It can't have been easy to watch for The Notorious' parents and his girlfriend.

They were understandably emotional in the aftermath.
