Aston Villa are preparing to dismiss manager Remi Garde after a miserable and brief reign that has them 12 points from Premier League safety with just seven games remaining.
According to a report in The Guardian, Villa's new board have resigned themselves to the fact that they will be relegated to the Championship but hope to put in place a new manager who can prepare their promotion bid as quickly as possible.
It has been a tumultuous week for the club, who have played in every Premier League season since its inception, with CEO Tom Fox resigning last Thursday just 48 hours after the departure of Sporting Director Hendrik Almstadt.
Garde was only appointed in November 2015 after Tim Sherwood was let go, but couldn't turn Villa's form around. The club didn't sign a single player in January and out of 31 league games this season, they have only won three.
The Telegraph is reporting that former Leicester boss Nigel Pearson is a target for the club.
