Footage of Ryan Giggs’s reaction of Manchester City’s Premier League triumph has emerged online, in which the interim Manchester United manager asks someone to turn them off before remarking sarcastically “flipping heck”.

Giggs had just seen his United side salvage a 1-1 draw with Southampton to end his short reign as manager with two wins, a draw and a defeat. Juan Mata’s free-kick cancelled out Saints’s opener, which was scored by England striker Rickie Lambert – who today was announced in Roy Hdgson’s England squad for the World Cup.

As the journalists and reporters in attendance at St Mary’s prepared themselves for what Giggs had to say, the 40-year-old caught sight of a TV that was showing the celebrations at the Etihad, with City reclaiming the trophy that the lost to their bitter rivals last season.

“You couldn’t turn that off could you? Flipping heck,” Giggs was heard to say, before pointing in the opposite direction and adding: “Don’t mind if I stare over there do you?”

Giggs has not yet confirmed his future with doubts whether he will continue his playing career, and the wider expectation is that he will move into coaching as part of the new United manager’s staff when an appointment is made – expected to be the current Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal.
