Strong final showing sees Irish youngster take Badminton U17 European Championship gold
A dominant final performance saw Irish badminton player Nhat Nguyen take U17 European Championship gold in Poland this afternoon.
Nguyen was pitted against England's Johnnie Torjussen in the decider but swept him aside with a decisive 21-17, 21-11 victory to be crowned European champion.
Earlier in the day, Nguyen, along with his partner Paul Reynolds, secured a bronze medal for Ireland in the doubles competition.
According to the Badminton Ireland Twitter account, the majority of the team will return to Dublin Airport this evening.
However medalist Nhat Nguyen will arrive tomorrow morning at 11.40.
