Video: Smiles galore as Ireland's 88-strong Special Olympics Team sets off for Los Angeles

There were joyous scenes at Dublin Airport this morning as Special Olympics Team Ireland and up to 40 coaches set off for the 2015 World Games in Los Angeles.

88 Irish athletes will compete in 13 sports over the course of the Games which begin with the opening ceremony this Saturday.

US Olympic legend Michael Phelps, First Lady Michelle Obama and Stevie Wonder will be among those to feature at the ceremony.

Irish Olympic silver medallist John Treacy, Hollywood A-lister Colin Farrell and Claudine Keane will accompany the Irish team into LA Coliseum on Saturday.

Over 7,000 athletes from 177 different countries will compete at the event.
