Craig Keane is thoroughly enjoying playing the role of a young Roy Keane in the film ‘Rockmount’ and wants to emulate the current Ireland assistant manager.
The 11 year-old was chosen to portray a young Keane in the film ‘Rockmount’, a story that charts Keane’s quest to make it as a footballer.
The film is directed by Dave Tynan and will premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh in July and is sure to capture public imagination. Young Craig is making the most of his opportunity, while his father Chris says it is all very surreal.
“For Craig to be playing Toy Keane – the legend – is huge,” he told Cork’s Red FM presenter Joe Harrington.
“It was an honour,” he added before adding that he had to pinch himself to make sure it isn’t a dream.
Craig too is overjoyed and has said that rehearsals are “not very hard, but not too easy either,” he is quoted as saying in The Irish Examiner.
The Ballincolling native has appeared in school plays, but this venture marks a huge step-up, though his talent shone through in competitive auditions.
“It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever cast,” Tynan said of the casting.
“I’m delighted not only with Craig, but all of our cast,” he added.
While Craig has said he would love to follow in Roy’s footsteps and forge a career in soccer, though his favourite player is current Liverpool star Daniel Sturridge.
