Video: I don't care who wins once it's a European team - John Delaney

Published 21/06/2014 | 19:56

FAI CEO John Delaney has been hugely impressed by the football on show at Brazil 2014 and believes it was what the beautiful game needed.

Speaking exclusively to Independent.ie in Rio de Janeiro, Delaney said that he hopes a European side lifts the World Cup trophy on South American soil for the first time.

"I'd love to see a European team win it. I don't really care who wins it once it's a European side.

It's had it all so far, so far so good. To date, a great advertisement for association football and that was badly needed."
