Video: 'Anything Zlatan can do, I can do better' - Philippe Mexes' stunning overhead kick fires Milan into Champions League knockout stages

SWEDEN striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic may have started a trend.

A week after his amazing strike against England, former teammate, AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes’ scored an equally stunning overhead kick in a crunch match against Anderlecht and sent his club into the last 16 of the Champions League.

The French defender chested up the ball on the edge of the area and sent a dipping bicycle kick into the far corner of the net to stun the Belgians and prompt comparisons to Ibrahimovic's wonder goal.

Stephan El Shaarawy had ut the Serie A side into a 47th-minute lead with Mexes adding the stunning second Milan's second in the 71st minute.

Tom De Sutter pulled one back for Anderlecht but Milan’s Alexandre Pato scored a late third.

Afterwards Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said: "I was amazed by the goal," Allegri said. "I first thought that Philippe wanted to throw the ball back in the middle. It's a marvellous goal and I think that Philippe deserves it, especially after all the criticism he received after his individual mistakes. But he did much better than against Napoli and I'm very happy for him today."
