United and Liverpool set to battle it out for Ukrainian star
Manchester United and Liverpool are expected to lock horns in a battle for the signature of Dnipro winger Yevhen Konoplyanka.
A long-term target for Brendan Rodgers, the Ukrainian club thwarted a Merseyside move for Konoplyanka on the final day of the January transfer window, but now new United manager Louis van Gaal is thought to be keen on pursuing the 24 year-old.
Liverpool had hoped a deal somewhere in the region of £12m would be enough to bring the Ukrainian international to Anfield, but now will face competition from their rivals.
Reds boss Rodgers insisted there was nothing more his club could have done to sign the 24-year-old in the last window, but club sources had indicated that the deal would be revived this summer.
Van Gaal has been promised substantial funds by the Glazers and midfield is an area the Dutch manager is expected to bolster before the start of the Premier League campaign,
