Middlesbrough have launched a £3m bid for Sheffield Wednesday's Republic of Ireland international keeper Keiren Westwood, writes Colin Young.

Boro, who released veteran keepers Victor Valdes and Brad Guzan following last month's relegation from the Premier League, have had previous bids for the 32-year-old turned down.

A move for Westwood, who has been the Championship keeper of the season, as well as the Owls' player of the season, in their last three campaigns, could also enhance his Ireland's prospect, with uncertainty surrounding Darren Randolph's future at West Ham.
