Transfer rumours: Manchester United in talks with super agent as they target trio
The window has been open for a week now, but there has been little activity to speak of especially at the top of of the market. Here's a look at whats on the grapevine today...
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United have been in touch with their old friend and super agent Jorge Mendes, who is trying to orchestrate the arrival of three new players at Old Trafford.
United's interest in Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is well documented, and the Star say personal terms have been agreed with the Sweden international so a deal should be concluded soon.
Another of Medes' clients, Southampton captain Jose Fonte, handed in a transfer request last request and attracted the attentions of compatriot Jose Mourinho in the summer when he looked to bolster United's defensive options.
However, reports now suggest that United are interested in a third player from the Mendes stable; Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez.
Elsewhere, according to the Sunday Mirror, Everton are keeping an eye on Jack Wilshere's contract situation at Arsenal with a view to a summer move for the England midfielder.
Wilshere is currently on a season-long loan at Bournemouth, and despite Arsene Wenger's insistence that he wants to keep Wilshere, his future is far from clear with just 18 months remaining on his current deal.
Arsenal will be keen to reap the benefits of the regular first-team football Wilshere has played at the Vitality Stadium, but Wilshere has liked the taste of being centre stage in a lesser side.
The Gunners neglected putting in a clause in Wilshere's loan deal that would have enabled them to bring him back to the Emirates this month, unlike Chelsea with Nathan Aké.
According to The Telegraph's Matt Law, Antonio Conte is seriously considering taking up the option to recall Aké, who has impressed at Bournemouth as a centre back.
Quick, left-footed and comfortable in possession, Aké looks ideally suited to slot in on the left side Conte's back three where Gary Cahill has been playing.
In other Chelsea news The Daily Mail report that the club will hold talks with 20-year-old midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek soon about a possible loan move this month.
The rumours surrounding Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli continue to reach dizzying new heights with The Mirror now claiming that Barcelona are interested in the goalscoring midfielder.
Real Madrid had been linked with a move for Alli, but not to be outdone Barcelona are purportedly keeping a close eye on him though it would take upwards of £70 million to make Spurs consider selling.
Finally, just when Sunderland fans thought they could breathe easily it seems Sam Allardyce has made a move to take Jermain Defoe to Crystal Palace.
The Sun report that Allardyce is keen to team up with the forward who propelled his Sunderland side out of danger last season, but the Black Cats are steadfast in their position that Defoe is not for sale.
