The Red Devils continue to be linked with Roma's €25m defender Mehdi Benatia, with The Daily Mirror saying that they will face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for his signature.

Van Gaal had been expected to add two defenders in light of the summer departures and should both Rojo and Benatia move to Old Trafford, it is likely to cost the club €45m.

Liverpool are still in the hunt for Colombian striker Falcao as a high-profile replacement for Luis Suarez. Monaco are open to offers for their star player in an effort to balance the books, though last week the player indicated that he would favour a move to Real Madrid over Merseyside. The Daily Mail say that Juventus have now entered the race for the former Atletico forward..

The same paper suggests that Atletico Madrid will consider moving for Reds defender Daniel Agger if they lose centre-half Diego Godin to Bayern Munich.

Alex Song could be set for a Premier League return. The Telegraph reports that Barcelona are willing to let midfielder Alex Song leave on a season-long loan with Everton, Manchester United and Tottenham all interested in the former Arsenal man.

Southampton may have money to burn after a string of big money departures, but they are struggling to add further to their squad with the deadline approaching. Spurs are believed to have turned down a £10m bid for winger Andros Townsend (The Independent).

Another player that could be on his way from St. Marys is midfielder Morgan Schneiderlein. The club are expected to turn down a £17m bid from Spurs, with Townsend possibly added to any proposed deal (The Star).
