Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has hinted that he may make a move for some speedy forwards in this month’s transfer scramble and the name of Southampton forward Sadio Mane looks set to be back on his agenda once more.

Saints were furious when United leaked to the media that they were interest in signing Mane last summer, in a move that was not followed up by an offer from the Old Trafford club to sign the Senegal forward.

The transfer stories unsettled Mane as he lost his form in the opening weeks of this season, so don’t expect Southampton to be amused if the Old Trafford giants now make a serious offer for the livewire forward who has impressed once again this season.

Southampton have made it clear that they will not consider selling him for any price this month, but that stance may not stop United making bid in excess of £20m for Mane in the coming days. If that is to transpire, the player could help to push through a potential deal by confirming he is ready to leave.

Fresh reports suggest Arsenal could launch a bid to sign Javier Hernandez from Bayer Leverkusen this month – with the former Man Utd striker certain to be a man in demand over the next few weeks.

Hernandez has scored goals aplenty for Leverkusen since his move from Old Trafford last summer and has claimed back-to-back Bundesliga Player of the Month awards to confirm his return to form.

The questions over why United boss Louis van Gaal allowed him to leave rumble on and if he returns to the Premier League and scored the goals that first Arsenal to the Premier League title, the folly of that decision will be highlighted more than ever.

Confirmation that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to add to his squad this month is fuelling the suggestion that Hernandez is on his wanted list and Leverkusen may be tempted to cash in their star striker and make a quick fire profit on him if Arsenal were to offer a fee in excess of £25m this month.

Alan Pardew enjoyed a successful relationship with French striker Loic Remy during his time as Newcastle boss and now he is eyeing up a move to bring the French striker to Crystal Palace in this January transfer window.

Pardew – who is in talks with the Eagles over extending his contract after a sparkling first year in charge - has told that he is keen to add to his squad early in this transfer window.

“There could be a signing arriving at the club in the next few days,” he told us exclusively, ahead of Sunday’s Premier League game against Chelsea. “We are quite close to getting a deal over the line and it is always good to get one in early in the window if possible. We would like to sign a striker in this window.”

Out-of-favour Chelsea striker Remy is unlikely to be the first signing he makes this month as the Premier League champions will not allow their back-up striker to leave unless the find a replacement, but attacking firepower is on Pardew’s agenda.

The Palace boss may allow Dwight Gayle to leave the club this month, which will open the door to the possibility of two strikers arriving, following the end of Patrick Bamford’s unsuccessful loan spell from Chelsea.
