Tottenham in shock move for Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha
Tottenham have launched a bid to sign Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha, with the former Manchester United star winger open to a switch to White Hart Lane.
Palace manager Alan Pardew had no intention of selling Zaha in this transfer window and was keen to promote the former Manchester United star as one of the leaders of his team following the sale of Yannick Bolasie to Everton.
Yet the interest from Spurs has altered that agenda, with the carrot of Champions League football enticing the 23-year-old to consider his options amid suggestions of a £15m bid.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has stated that he wants to sign as many as four players in the final week of the transfer window, with Zaha clearly one of the names on his wanted list.
“We hope to sign one, two or three players, or maybe no one,” he said last week. “It depends on many things that will happen. We will try to find some players to sign.
“I know it is difficult in this crazy transfer window, but we have a philosophy and we follow our way, which makes us different to other clubs.”
Spurs officials will be keen to bring in some players to bolsters Pochettino’s squad, with the Tottenham manager going on record to express his disappointment following the imminent departure of the club’s head of recruitment Paul Mitchell.
Pochettino was pivotal in enticing Mitchell from his former club Southampton and the duo were keen to work together in shaping Tottenham’s future, but the latter has decided that he cannot work in the club’s current set-up under chairman Daniel Levy.
