Tottenham Hotspur will open talks with Everton over Republic of Ireland midfielder James McCarthy according to reports in England today.
The Daily Mirror believes that McCarthy is growing frustrated with contract discussions at Goodison Park and is interested in a move to the north Londoners.
A formal bid is expected within the next fortnight.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez ids already facing a battle to hand onto John Stones, with Chelsea preparing a another bid for the player and will be keen to retain the services of another key player.
The Toffees have valued McCarthy at €28m, but it is unlikely to deter Spurs from making an initial bid according to the paper.
The 24-year-old signed a five-year deal when he moved to Goodison Park from Wigan in 2013. But while other players have had their contracts revised, he has not.
Their bid could include the option of Aaron Lennon, who played on loan with the Toffees last season, moving in the opposite direction.
McCarthy had also been linked with a move to Manchester City, before the club purchased Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph.
