Talks are expected to take place between the two sides on Monday morning as Southampton attempt to recoup the £12m they paid Celtic for the player in 2013.

Wanyama was scheduled to depart Nairobi on Sunday for London to finalise the deal and undertake medicals at the club before returning back on Wednesday to continue with his holidays.

The 24-year-old has one year left on his contract at Southampton but has expressed his interest to re-join former manager Mauricio Pochettino at White Hart Lane.

Talking to Kenyan website Soka25east, Wanyama has outlined his intent to move away from St Mary’s.

“It’s always a tough moment leaving a club that you are so much used to their tradition and fans but again it’s always the dream of any footballer to play at the very top level like Champions League," Wanyama said.

"I will definitely miss the awesome Southampton fans who always showed me love and I know they will fully understand my decision.”
