Sky Sports are tonight suggesting that Irish striker Shane Long is on the verge of a £12m transfer to Southampton.

The Hull City striker only moved to the Hawthorns last January for a fee reported to be £7m but new Saints manager Ronald Koeman is keen to bolster his squad after many high-profile departures from St. Mary's.

Sky Sports presenter Jim White tweeted tonight that both clubs had agreed on a fee for the 27 year-old Tipperary man after missing out on the signature of Javier Hernandez.

Long hit four goals in 17 appearances for the Tigers as they cemented their place in the top flight and the move would represent a significant profit for the club.

Long would be viewed as a suitable partner for fellow new boy Graziano Pelle following the Italian’s switch from Feyenoord, where he played under the Dutchman.
